Service Description

Skin Tags (or verucca filiformi) are a soft, skin-coloured growth that hangs from the surface of the skin. It is attached to your body by a thin piece of tissue called a stalk. They are a problem because the location of the tag may be irritated by the constant rubbing of clothing or jewellery, they can also be located on places like the hands and face where they can be unsightly. They will never go away unless they are removed. Skin Tags are removed using short wave diathermy – a form of indirect current. Using a small needle, the current destroys the skin tag and during the healing process it will fall off. A small scab may appear but should fall off within the 4 weeks of healing. Warts are small, rough, viral growths on the skin. They are very common and are usually spread by direct skin-to-skin contact or indirectly through shared contact with contaminated surfaces. Warts do not usually cause any other symptoms in people with normally functioning immune systems and usually resolve without treatment, although this can take months or years. There are many different options of treatment for warts. However, diathermy targets the ‘mother warts’. It is effective in 65-85% of cases and is the go-to solution for persistent warts. When treating multiple common warts it may be necessary to have more than one diathermy treatment. One month after the skin has healed the remaining wart can be treated again. When it comes to moles, we would require an approval note from your GP before providing the treatment to ensure your safety. Moles are removed also using a diathermy procedure which shaves away the mole and cauterises the wound bed. Following removal, there will be a flat, light brown mark in place of the mole. An anti-microbial ointment is then applied with a simple dressing to cover the area. After the diathermy treatment the skin at the treatment site may scab before it heals and ejects the dead skin out, leaving a smoother surface. If you are unsure if the treatment is suitable, please book a consultation to discuss your options.
